A Modern Retro Hairdo'

Hi Ladies,
One of my favorite bloggers, because she's so sweet and funny, is Cynthia from Marcy Very Much. She recently introduced me to photography by Hannah Betts. I took one look at Hanna's Nancy Drew inspired photo below and fell in love with the hairstyle! (Immediately afterward I began to pout because none of my indoor photography has ever looked this good.) After I pulled myself together, I picked up this photo, walked over to my nearest hair salon and told them to give me the Amy Winehouse! Just kidding...I told them to make this photo happen!

So, they got close...it's not an exact match, but I like it. :) What do you think? If you want to do a similar look on yourself, checkout This is Glamourous' tutorial here. Also, if you are looking for a laugh to lighten your day, checkout:

    1. Thanks...wish I could claim the credit, but it was totally the hairstylist :)

  3. I love this look but for some reason I never get it right, sometimes it's too fluffy and others too flat. Thanks for the video, it's really helpful, I'm going to try again. You look amazing btw!

    1. Thank you :) I can never get it right when I tease my hair either. This was completely the talent of my hairdresser though, I just sat there. :)

  4. Oh my gosh - I just started screaming when I saw this post! Thank you! I feel famous. I have been under the weather for the past few days (darn summer cold) and instantly feel 100% better! Yay!
They did a great job recreating Hannah's Nancy Drew hair on you! Yours looks softer and more modern. I like it better on you.
Sigh... I feel like I need to up my own photography skills. Your photos always look so professional. Also, I think I need a camera where the focus can be adjusted but I am just not ready to take the leap yet. I would love to get more creative but I do wonder if I have the patience.
Merrie - thank you so much again for the super duper awesome and sweet shout out!! aaacj... just started screaming again!

    1. LOL...that's how I felt when you did a post on me!!! :) I called my mom and told her...I felt like I'd just won an emmy. :) You totally deserve it though and I can't wait to see what your "clan" is up to next. :) Taking head shots like this is actually not that hard..trust me...prior to starting this blog...the last time I'd used a camera was when you had to develop film...lol. I have a DSLR camera, but honestly I put it on automatic a lot (please don't tell any real photographers, they hate hearing that)...for this shot, I'm actually sitting on my bed, facing a window. The camera is in front of me...using day light is really the only trick :). How is your costume designing going?

    2. That is amazing that you took those yourself. They look professional!
My costume design is going slowly. I keep getting derailed with other details for the show. This last week I had to do a casting and it took all week. Now I am focused on finding rehearsal space. And marketing. I did find some stuff at Forever 21 of all places . I may do a post on it but my dressing room pics turned out awful.
Thank you again for having me on your blog! And oh - I totally called my mom too!
One of the things I am loving about blogging is meeting so many wonderful, interesting, creative, and supportive women! Yay! Go Girls!

    3. You need someone to help you out! I can't believe you have to do all those things by yourself...and I assume that's not even your day job? And how do you find time to blog? No wonder you are sick...hopefully things will slow down soon :). I agree...I've had so much fun meeting cool people and talking about stuff I love (fashion and cats). :) TTYL!

  5. Your hairstylist did a great job of re-creating this look - I wonder if it would be harder to do on your own because you can't view the back of your own hair as well? Either way, I like it and like seeing it styled on shorter hair - love the soft waves in front. :)

  7. I used to do something similar when I had sideswept bangs. It was my favorite thing to do, but I haven't done it in quite some time. I need to though! I love it on you! Carylee | morepiecesofme.com
