Things I loved about Phoenix

Hi Ladies,
As you know...I'm moving from Hot-as-Heck-Phoenix and starting a new life in San Fran! By the time you read this, I will probably (god willing) have moved into my new apartment. Yay! A lot of people may not know anything about Phoenix...except that it's the place where escaped convicts go to live out the rest of their lives, people get relocated for witness protection and that it can be substituted into any sentence that calls for Timbuktu. For instance, "After Sam ratted on the mob boss, I heard he was moved to Timbuktu or something...yeah...Phoenix." - OR - "Such and Such escaped off a prison bus some where in a small town in Arizona...yeah...he joined a pack of Coyotes and loves rattlesnake meat!"

Maybe this is just my perspective, since I'm from the east coast, but until I got offered a job there, I didn't even know where Arizona was on the map! I certainly didn't know that it's the center of a party vortex (exactly 6 hours from Los Angles, San Diego and Las Vegas). I've also learned that there are quite a few magical things about Phoenix that you would never guess! :)

- It rains about 10 times a year here! This may not seem like a plus, but if you like outdoor activities, like biking, hiking or taking pictures for your blog...you will be able to do 365 days a year. If it does rain, it's only for about 10 mins.

- There are also so many animals here and they are always about! During spring, which runs from February to May, everything is hatching.
I took the picture on the left from my car with my iphone. Sorry the quality is so bad, but I doubt the birds would've waited. :)This is a mommy quail (or daddy) with her little babies following behind her. So cute...you can barely tell, but there are 5 of them. (The picture on the right, is what the babies look like up close.)

This is the underside of the roof of my car port. There were 3 baby bird nests this year! I don't know what kind they were, but one day I got to see a wobbly one, stand on her feet at the edge of her nest...I assume she was about to take off, but it looked like she feel asleep and I couldn't wait for ever. LOL

This is the view from outside of my living room. I go biking here. (You can't see it, but there is a trail.) I see a lot of Coyotes and rattle snakes here.

However, I also get to see cute stuff like this. These little bunnies are everywhere in Phoenix and there are tons of babies during spring.

Well, there you have it! A tour of phoenix from an animal lover's perspective. :)

Have a great week! :)

ASOS Petite Shopping Haul

Hi Ladies,
Things are still crazy with the move...actually, things are absolutely crazy! I won't go into details now, because I'm still in shell shock, but let's just say it involved 2 days in a car with a howling cat, sleeping on the floor of a 100 degree apatment, bathing in the kitchen with paper towels...TWICE and some other stuff that I've probably blocked. I'm probably only going to get a chance to post twice this week and I know I'm so behind on keeping up with commetns. :( I hope things will calm down by next week! Miss chatting with you guys! Here's a post that I wrote a few weeks ago....

I took advantage of the sale that Asos had a few weeks ago. I love it when they do those 50% off sales, especially since most things were all arond $30! (If you don't know, Asos carries Petites, Misses and Plus and ships to many countries.) Unfortunately, I didn't fall in love with anything, especially since its so late in the season.

So, I felt that this Petite Chambray Swing Dress looked liked a nightgown on me. However, I tried it on with a belt to see if I like it better. It's better, but I'm not in love. I also would need to shorten the straps, so I wouldn't have continuous "wardrobe mishaps". I got a size 10P, which is the normal dress size for me. I would definitely size down.

Petite Chambray Swing Dress

I felt the same way about this swing dress. I bought a 10P, but it fit much better in the chest.

I don't know....I'm not loving all the emphasis on my chest area and I think the length is too short?? (I bought a 10P.)

Petite Sweetheart Dress

I think it's definitely too short and it was tight under my arms, even though I bought a 12P. What's up with that?

New Subscription Box - Lip Factory Review

Curvy, Petite Outfit Ideas | Professional and Casual-Chic Fashion and Style Inspiration | New Subscription Boxes - Lip Factory June Review
Hi Ladies,
I decided to try a new makeup subscription service that was a little cheaper than Wantables. Lip Factory is only $22/ month and they provide makeup products customized to your skin tone and prefernces. I have to say that I wasn't overly impressed with the selection. Firstly, it bugs me to recieve dark blue eye shadow in the middle of summer and secondly, I'd tried the NCLA nail wraps before and didn't like them.

Striped Blazer and Denim Trousers

Striped Blazer and Denim Trousers
Hi Ladies,
Just a quickie post today! I'm packing and wrapping stuff up at work, so things are crazy! I wanted to quickly point out that I love denim trousers by Banana Republic. When my weight fluctuates, I just buy a larger size and I find that they fit well over a large range of sizes...they go up to a 16 regular and 14 in petite. Anyway, just a thought if you are looking for denim. Take Care :)

Goodbye Phoenix!

Hi Ladies,
Not sure if any of you've noticed, but I've been really behind on keeping up with my comments lately and I haven't been blog hopping as much as I would like. :( Well....it's because I've got great news!! I've been interviewing for a new job this month and I finally got and accepted the offer! I'm moving to San Francisco!!!!! SCREAM!!! :) Actually, I'm moving to a suburb, but that's close enough. :)

Also, I move this weekend, so OMG...things are crazy! I had just moved into a new apartment in phoenix about 4 months ago and wanted to share some pics, so I figured I'd better do it now before it's too late.

My Bedroom
Bedroom (this is the same dresser that had all my jewelry on...it's just empty because it's staged for Craigslist..lol)

I'm gonna miss my Living Room the most. I have the world's most comfortable sofa...it's perfect for sleeping on, plus I love all the colors! My new place is smaller (much, much smaller), so I think I will go with more pastels. I can't wait to decorate!

Plus, my living room had these huge, gorgeous windows that me (and my cats) love :)
Here's a little DIY project I did...it kind of barely counts as DIY, bc it was so simple, but I wanted to cover this big bare wall. I bought these circle decals from Target for about $20. I think I"ll be doing a decal headboard in my new place and maybe some of the reusable wallpaper.
This is what it looked like afterwards.

Bye Ya'll! I expect this to settle down in the next couple weeks, so I'll talk to you soon :)

Necklaces I've Worn the Most this Season

Hi Ladies,
I've received a lot of positive comments from you about my jewelry. Many of you like my pieces, but say that you'er uncomfortable picking out pieces yourself. (Secret: I never bought much jewelry until about 3 years ago. For most of my life, I only wanted jewelry that you could put on and keep until it fell off. I knew that they could make an outfit, but I never wanted to take the time to match them up myself. Finally, one day I decide to invest in jewelry and figure out to wear them.)

Even though I now own a lot of jewelry, there are some pieces that I keep going back to day after day. If you are looking to build a jewelry wardrobe, this is a good place to start. This was also a good exercise for me...I need to figure out what is special about these pieces, so I can avoid more closet orphans. :)

There's something wonderful and brigtening about having gold so close to your face!

This blue, sparkly necklace is tailored enough for work. The color is navy, but also looks black.

Update on Easy Gel Nails

Hi Ladies, you know I blogged about Deborah Lippmann's Gel Lab a few weeks ago? I was so excited about this "Gel-like experience". It promised manicures that would last a week and could be removed with regular polish remover. It cost $45, but if it worked...I was there!

Well...it didn't. :( My polish chipped the next day, just like with a regular base and top coat. HOWEVER, I did pickup L'Oreal Gel Laque from CVS which has similar claims and only cost $10! It worked really well! I went 5 days before there was any significant chipping. (There was minor 'tip-wearage' or "shrinkage" after 3 days.) It's definitely worth the money and I'd love to hear anyone else's feedback.

Take Care!

Black and white striped dress

Dress: here
Cardigan: here
Necklace: here
Heels: similar

Hi Ladies,
I love black and white stripes! I had no idea that I loved it so much until every store started carrying it a few years ago, but now I can't get enough of it. It was hard at first, because horizontal stripes can make curvy people look wider than they are. However, I kept an open mind and found that a lot of them work! (TIP: if you still feel wide, try wearing a dark cardigan with it as I did, that will cut down on all the horizontal lines.)
**All the dresses below come in petite. :)

Alterations...

Pretty striped dresses...

A Few Kitty Pics

Hi Ladies,
Today's topic doesn't have anything to do with fashion (maybe it has something to do with petites??), but I wanted to share some cute pictures of my kitties. I left this lemon colored comforter out and look who crawled in and posed? I couldn't have bribed, cajoled or threatened them to sit there, but they willingly went...I'm considering patenting this technique. :)

Goodnite ya'll!

Leopard print skirt & black tank

Tank: here
Skirt: see pics below
Tote: here on sale!
Necklace: cute option!
Hi Ladies,
I wanted to share a quick pic of what I wore to the mall the other day. To me, it's the perfect shopping outfit because it's comfy, involves flats and has plenty of space for purchases.

I love these knit skirts by Vince Camuto! They are so comfortable and surprisingly they skim over your curves. (Trust me, I wasn't even going to bother trying it on, because I thought it would show too many lumps and bumps. ) (Checkout the other ways I've styled them: here, here and here...yes, I do own them in every print.) :)

This tote from Banana Republic is great too. It's the right size for a laptop or for shopping.  The handle drop is also the perfect length to go over a petite shoulder.

Also, I love these j.crew factory tanks, because they glide over everything! (Next time I will wear a black bra under this one, because they are obviously sheer :) .) I sized down for a slimmer fit. If you need to go up a size and find that it's too long. Consider buying it and paying a tailor to cut a couple inches off the bottom. I have done this with tops before and it shouldn't cost more than $10. (If you are dropping off a few, I would also ask for a discount, because this is a really easy job for a tailor.)
