Hi Ladies,
I love black and white stripes! I had no idea that I loved it so much until every store started carrying it a few years ago, but now I can't get enough of it. It was hard at first, because horizontal stripes can make curvy people look wider than they are. However, I kept an open mind and found that a lot of them work! (TIP: if you still feel wide, try wearing a dark cardigan with it as I did, that will cut down on all the horizontal lines.)
**All the dresses below come in petite. :)

Thanks! Me too...I wondering what I was wearing before? :)
DeleteCute dress and a good fit. The Trina Turk is a good choice with the stripes going both ways!

I know...Trina Turk knows how to rock it! I just wish her prices were cheaper...
DeleteI like stripy dresses. I was wearing one today as well :)
ReplyDeleteYou totally rock this monochrome dress after the fix!

I bought a black and white striped skirt from ASOS a few months ago and am having trouble figuring out how to style it. I think I need to think of the black and white as a neutral? Because really, I've seen green and blue all look fantastic with black and white stripes.
ReplyDeleteI think it is so wonderful that you can look beyond an ill fitting dress to see what it could become. Did you ever take an item of clothing to your tailor and she couldn't fix it? Or is everything fixable? That dress is so beautiful on you!

I would totally think of it as a neutral. I love them with bright colors! I'm sure your skirt is adorable...can't wait to see how you style it. :) LOL to you question on an "unfixable" outfit...I love a challenge! :) I have had experience where I thought the fix was XYZ and then the tailor told me it was something else or that she didn't think i would like it once she did what I asked.
DeleteThe stripes look amazing on you! Thanks for linking-up with Little Miss Monday! ;)

DeleteI really love that you posted the before and after pic! what a difference and small price to pay for a dress that looks absolutely made for you! Love it! Carylee | morepiecesofme.com
ReplyDeleteThank you...it is time consuming and pricey to go to a tailor, but I really love it when things turn out right!
DeleteI think this dress is quite flattering! I bought a black and white striped dress this summer and have had fun adding pops of neon to it - shoes and accessories! Then you can add a jacket and wear it for fall too! You look great friend! Susan
ReplyDeleteI looooove neon w/ B&W! My niece introduced me to the combo and I can't stop wearing it :)
DeleteHa, you aren't kidding about all the stores carrying a b/w striped dress. Great options. And I'm impressed at your dedication to alterations! I also love how you show the before and after and what a difference it makes. I didn't even know they could raise the waist like that - that's awesome.

LOL...yeah...tailors are amazing...I would probably prefer to stab myself in the eye rather than make the alterations myself, but I love that there are people out there who feel differently :) (I have no patience for that sort of thing.)
DeleteI am ALSO in love with black and white striped dresses right now! Love yours! Great fit! You look great! Good tips too!
